how we started.
Tangletown Gardens was born in Spring of 2003 when founders Scott Endres and Dean Engelmann opened the doors of a renovated 1939 Pure Oil station on the corner of Nicollet Ave and 54th Street in South Minneapolis with a vision that quickly took root in the community.
As a couple of farm boys who met in the Horticulture program at the University of Minnesota, Scott and Dean wanted to create an urban garden center that focused on doing things differently.
From carrying unusual plant varieties to creating cutting-edge designs and producing plants using industry-leading regenerative practices, Tangletown Gardens has always been about going Beyond the Ordinary.
Today the business has expanded to include the garden center and shoppe, landscape, design, and garden services, a robust CSA program and Farm Direct store, Wise Acre Eatery (our farm to table restaurant) and the farm and greenhouse facilities in Plato, MN at the heart of everything we do.
community impact.
At Tangletown Gardens we are passionate about giving back to the community that gives so much to us. We are always looking for opportunities to support organizations that are working to make the world a better place.
We align ourselves with with organizations that fight for social justice, to end hunger, and reverse climate change. We also are passionate about initiatives that bring green space and agriculture into our inner city communities. These causes are at the heart of what we believe and why we do what we do.
Education is paramount to us. We donate to the University of Minnesota horticulture department, organize farm tours, and support grassroots initiatives that encourage youth to get involved in agriculture, understand food, and lead a healthy life.
